Ok, so the title is a little misleading as unless you’re friend can’t take shots and you can chug beer like it’s your job, then there’s most likely no way you’re going to be able to finish 3 beers before your friend can take 3 shots. This is actually more of a bar trick than actually doing it.

The Setup: First bet your friend that you think you can drink 3 full glasses of beer (must be pint glasses) before he/she can finish 3 shots. The only rules are that you are not allowed to touch each others glasses/shots and they must wait to take the first shot after you’ve finished with your first glass of beer.

The Trick: Take your time drinking your first beer, your buddy can’t take their first shot until it’s gone anyways so there’s no rush… Once you finish the beer take your pint glass and turn it over, upside down, over top of your friend’s last shot glass… since the rules state that you cannot touch each others glasses you win since he won’t be able to take the last shot due to the fact that he can’t get to it without touching your glass…

Make it interesting and bet the round of drinks on the trick.

If you’re looking for a unique way to stock your cabinets with drinking glasses and don’t want to spend a lot of money… and you want to get drunk on top of it, then this trick is for you.

It’s extremely simple to do if you have the right tools, those tools being the following: a piece of string, an empty beer bottle, nail polish remover, a lighter, sandpaper and a sink/bucket full of cold water.

What you’re going to do is take a string and tie it around the bottle where you want to cut it, do this before you soak it so that you can get the correct fit. Next you’ll soak the string in the nail polish remover and place it around the bottle. Light the string with the lighter and pick up the bottle, slowly rotate it around in a circle like you see in the video above. After 30 or so seconds, dunk the top of the bottle into the water and the glass should “pop” from the sudden change in temperature, thus breaking the bottom at it’s weakest point, the place you just heated up.

Before you use your new glass to drink out of you’re going to want to sand down the top edges so you don’t cut yourself when drinking out of them. The video above doesn’t show the sanding part, but hopefully you’re smart enough to know that you’ll cut the hell out of your face if you try to drink out of the freshly broken bottle.

This trick also works with wine bottles (or any bottle really), so if you want to do something creative with those this will work also, although it may require a bit longer burn on the string to heat the bottle a bit more.

Have you ever found yourself out in the middle of the woods with a bottle of wine and a glass, but no cork screw? If that sounds like a situation you could possibly find yourself in then this trick is for you.

Essentially all you need to open a wine bottle is a towel, or something to wrap around the bottle so you can get a good grip, and a tree. Just wrap the towel around the bottle and gently, but firmly, hit the bottom of the bottle against the tree and the cork will slowly being to pop itself out. Sure it’ll appear as though you’re giving the tree a hand job, but once it’s done you can finally enjoy that nice glass of wine you’ve been waiting for.

Ever find yourself with a nice cold beer in your hand, but no way to open it? There are plenty of ways to open a beer bottle without having a bottle opener… and this is one of those ways. I’ve seen lots of people use a lighter or the edge of a counter, but not too many people can bust out a piece of paper and open a beer with it. So check out the video above and learn how to open a beer bottle with just a piece of paper.

I used quotes in the title around “instantly” because there is some setup time involved in this trick that involves a freezer, but the trick is still impressive as it is.

If you haven’t watched the video above yet, what you will see is a liquid beer that instantly turns to ice once it is slammed onto a counter top. In order to perform this trick you need to take the beer (in a glass bottle) and leave it completely undisturbed in a freezer for 3 hours. Do not place the beer in the door of the freezer if you intend to open the freezer door. Any slight disturbance to the beer may cause the trick to fail.

Once the beer has been in the freezer for 3 hours, remove it and tap it against a hard surface. Almost instantly you’ll see the beer change from liquid to solid right before your eyes.

Based on recent experience, short neck bottles don’t work as well. A buddy talked up the trick all night and then when he attempted it with a Heineken bottle it completely failed leaving him looking like an idiot so find a bottle with a longer neck, like a Corona. If you have any other tips on how to make it work every time, without fail, please let us know in the comments and don’t forget to follow us on Twittter @drink101

Picture this, it’s New Years Eve and almost midnight, the champagne is ready to be de-corked and everyone is excited to ring in the New Year… but wait, what’s this? Nobody wants to de-cork the bottle due to their own fears of cork related accidents… Luckily you’re not a pussy and are totally willing to open the bottles for everyone, but in order to show them all up, you do it with a giant turkey carving knife instead of your tiny lady hands…

If that sounds like the situation you expect to find this New Years Eve then make sure to check out the video above which shows you (in multiple tries) how to pop that cork like it’s 1999… or whatever year it happens to be.

Gizmodo has a step-by-step guide which you can find >here< but essentially it’s what you see in the video, just make sure the bottle is extremely cold and you’re using the blunt edge of the knife to do the de-corking… it could be seriously dangerous if you decided to use the sharp end, although this looks dangerous in all respects so attempt at your own risk.

What You Need

Heavy Duty Saw (to cut the keg)
Drill with larger bit
Some sort of handle (wooden lined so it doesnt get hot, like on normal BBQ”s)
2-3 Hinges
A grill grate to put inside for a place to cook on

How To Make

Its actually pretty simple to make, but you need to get creative on how to hold it up. I haven’t come up with the perfect way yet. We were thinking 2×4′s staked into the ground with a pole that ran between them holding up the keg, but if the pipe goes through the middle it would probably melt eventually. So for now we just have a chain attached on either side that holds it from a hook. It works, but swings a bit which is annoying.

1. Drink the keg completely and say goodbye to your deposit, cause the liquor store isn’t getting this one back.

2. Take the saw and cut the keg in half the long ways, so you have 2 even halves of the keg, this is basically your grill.

3. Decide which side will be the back and attach the hinges so that the keg can open and close freely. And on the other side (front) attach the wooden lined handle so you can open and close it without touching the keg. Its going to get damn hot when your cooking.

4. Inside the keg, cut your grill/grate so that it fits down into the keg to the point where you can get charcoal underneath it and be able to cook comfortably. Make sure its not too deep into the keg, again the metal gets hot, don’t want to burn yourself reaching too far down.

5. Find a way to mount it. As I said, you need to get creative with this part, we hung ours from a hook by chains, but however you decide to do this is up to you.

6. Load the sucker up with charcoal and lighter fluid, light, and enjoy!

*Picture is not our Keg BBQ, but you can buy similar ones below!

Assemble as shown in the diagram below. The 2-ft. pipes will be used for the back of the footprint as well as the ladder rungs. The front of the footprint doesn’t need to be as long as the back because all the force is coming from the front.

To make the “bolos” you need to drill holes through each of the golf balls, feed the rope through and tie it off on the other end. You can also drill only part way through, feed the rope in there and then hot glue the rope so it stays, its up to you.

How To Play

Set the ladders about 20 feet apart (this is up to you)
Teams of 2, 1 person from each team on each side.
Team 1 throws first, followed by the opponent on that same side.
Points are as follows:
Top Rung = 3 Points
Middle Rung = 2 Points
Bottom Rung = 1 Point

Feel free to switch it around, top being 1, if you choose, sometimes its harder to get it on the bottom rung.

Score is determined very similarly to Baggo (Cornhole, Bags), points cancel each other out. So if you score 4 but the other team scores 2 on that same round, you only get 2 points. Play up to 21, thats it!

36″x72″
Saw
Large Hammer
Screw Driver (preferably a battery operated drill with screw bit)
Screws
4 Horseshoes
4 2×4”s – 36″ Long
4 2×4”s – 48″ Long
Sand – Enough to fill 2 36″ x 72″ Boxes
2 24″ Stakes (solid metal pipes)

How To Make

Making a backyard horseshoe game is pretty simple actually. There’s no need to worry about making it professional with the bounding boxes and pitching platforms and all that stuff. These are the basic instructions to make a simple horseshoe playing area that consists of 2 pits, that’s it, that’s all you really need when playing horseshoes.

You are going to need to repeat these steps again for the other pit (obviously)

Start by making a frame for your pit, take 2 of the 36″ 2×4”s and 2 of the 48″ one”s and making a rectangle. Screw the pieces of wood together. This is the frame.

Now your grass is going to get ruined in the pit area anyways, so what we like to do is dig a few inches down into the ground in a rectangle so that your frame top sits a tiny bit lower than the grass. It can be flush if you want, its not really important.

With your frame hole dug out, place the frame in the crater. Now take your 24″ stake and jam that sucker down into the middle of the pit using your large hammer. You only want between 13-15″ of the pipe sticking out of the ground after we put the sand in (next step) so be sure you leave a few inches to compensate for the sand. You can make the pipe longer (so you have more to hammer down into the ground) if you want to give it more stability, but its up to you.

Next fill the frame with sand. Remember that the pipe needs to be sticking out 13-15″. But the sand will get moved around alot, so being exact isnt a necessity.

Now measure 40 feet from where you put the first stake and that is where you will put the opposite stake. Repeat the instructions above to create the 2nd pit area.

Thats all there is too it. Now, if you wanted to make a regulation horseshoe pit, this is not it. This is for the casual backyard gamer who wants something for his guests to do while other people are playing cornhole and Washers.

How To Play

A Ringer is a shoe that rings around the stake, or encircles the stake. This is worth 3 Points
A Shoe In Count is a shoe that is within 6 inches of the stake. A shoe that is leaning against the stake is also considered a Shoe in Count. This is worth 1 Point

2 Teams of 2, teams line up on opposing sides. Each team throws 4 shoes, 2 by each member. The points are added up and the other team throws.
First team to 40 points wins.

These are basic rules, you can change them as you choose.

A Keg
A Tap
A Cup

What To Do:

Its pretty simple, but its a common mistake a lot of people make. DO NOT PUMP THE KEG BEFORE POURING THE FIRST BEER OF A NEW KEG!

Like I said, simple. The keg comes pressurized, if it was not, it would go flat. So when you first tap the keg its as if its already pumped as much as it can be, so do not overpump it. This is what causes foam. Pour your first few beers without pumping and this will help minimize the amount of foam coming out of the keg when you first tap it.
